A getaway can be a healthy part of one’s being. Is it not that sometimes, you just want to ‘get away from it all?’
I am lucky to experience family getaways that serve to refresh and rejuvenate. These times are also wonderful chances to create family memories.
A couple of years back, we spend a weekend in Thunderbird Poro Point. Months back, we conquered Thunderbird Rizal. Thunderbird Resorts is known for their secludedly elegant feel with hints of luxury and breathtaking views. I had two differing experiences in these two resorts.
Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point 2010
I was a working mother. I was not just in ‘full load’ but in overload! I remember my husband suddenly whisking us away to this Thunderbird place that he was raving about. I was not so thrilled. All I thought about was getting back to work the following Monday and getting things done. My kind of “high” those days was ticking off as many boxes as I can in my checklist.
The kids were younger then. In the photos, I see them amused at the blue dome and white facade that resembled Greece’s Santorini. I didn’t share the amusement, I think.
I see them enjoying the soft and fluffy beds and the huge bath tub. The photos show the glistening pool amid the backdrop of a rocky sea. I remember I didn’t even take a dip in the pool or a walk in the paths of the rocky beach. I left the resort raring to go back to getting things done.
I missed something there.
Thunderbird Resorts, Rizal, 2012
I was thrilled when I confirmed our booking because of a special promo. As we went on our way, I was conscious of the nooks and crannies out of the city towards the hilly paths of Antipolo, Rizal. I was amused as we snaked through small, urban communities and up through the winding roads toward the Thunderbird estate. When we reached the top, I saw a beautiful view of the metro. I felt that Thunderbird in Poro Point had the better view having those rocky seas and all. I was sad I didn’t drink it all back then.
I explored the entire place, waded through the halls, entered and exited the casino floor, lounged around the spa area and sat longer than usual at the pool bar after we had our sumptuous lunch. We watched movies as a family inside the hotel room. If there was a hotel room to stay and sit in all day, this could be it with their nice beds, quiet but pretty scene from the veranda and excellent room service. Hey, a hotel staff even knocked to deliver ‘good night kisses.’ which were actually Hershey’s chocolate kisses. I thought that was sweet.
During this getaway, I was able to do two things I so long wanted to do. I curled up in the patio lounge chair and finished a Jane Green novel. I finally watched “The Help,” which I think was a great movie.
I left the resort with my family, calmed and relaxed. There was no immediate plan at hand. It was simply just to go home.

Now you got me wanting to look up their resorts as I love to travel and find new places too. I am an interior designer by profession so hotels always interest me. Great post!
