There are days when your body gets so full of those meat and oil intake. There are specific moments that your body just naturally craves for something “fresh and green.” I periodically have that feeling. Last Saturday, I just had to have my greens. Over at the supermarket, I collected cilantro, scallions, tomatoes and mangoes to prepare a cilantro salad. Something caught my eye. Little green leaves on tiny stems called Tao Miao caught my fancy. It looked like this…

tao miaoI bought it, not knowing what to do with it. I looked it up in the net and discovered it was not that popular. I gathered though that it is a pea sprout, sometimes called dou miao or pea vines. It’s an Asian veggie, mostly used by Chinese restaurants as plain veggie dish, in soups or as salads. I opted to make a salad using the mangoes, tomatoes and scallions with apple cider vinegar and the mango extract as dressing. I added some Almarai cheese triangle bits. The Tao Miao looked pretty with the yellow and orange that came with it. The most obvious taste of Tao Miao is that it tastes a lot like turnips therefore making it really fresh, cool and watery. Just the ‘green fix’ that I needed.
